UPDATED 10/23/25 8:15am PST: A tragic collision involving eight vehicles including big rigs and other vehicles brought traffic to a standstill Tuesday 10/21/25 in the afternoon on the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 (I-10) in Ontario, California. Authorities confirmed that three people were killed and four others were hospitalized following the devastating crash. 21 year old Jashanpreet Singh was driving the tractor trailer that catastrophically rear ended a line of traffic and was arrested under suspicion of DUI. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims. Dashcam footage courtesy of ABC7 shown below.

Crash Details

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the incident occurred shortly after 1:15 p.m. near the interchange connecting I-10 and I-15. Initial reports indicate that several large trucks and passenger vehicles were involved, resulting in significant wreckage spread across multiple lanes.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while five others were transported to nearby hospitals. Sadly, one more person later died from injuries sustained in the crash. All victims have been identified as adults.

Attorney William D. Shapiro Speaks Out

As someone who grew up in Ontario, and went to Chaffey High School I know the dangers of this freeway and this interchange all too well. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families” said attorney Bill Shapiro.

William D Shapiro Law, Inc. has recovered hundreds of millions for crash victims and their families in San Bernardino county for over four decades, and recently had a $52 million semi truck jury verdict.

Traffic Shutdown and SigAlert

In response to the accident, CHP issued a SigAlert, closing all westbound lanes of the I-10, with the exception of the FasTrak lane. The I-10/I-15 connector road was also shut down, causing severe congestion in the area.

Motorists were urged to seek alternate routes due to “very heavy traffic and extended delays,” according to CHP officials.

Aerial Footage Shows Extensive Damage

Around 4 p.m., SkyCal captured aerial footage of the crash site, revealing the scale of destruction. At least three semi-trucks, one pickup truck, and a vehicle towing a trailer full of items were among those involved, alongside two additional passenger cars.

Every vehicle visible from above had sustained considerable damage, with debris scattered across the freeway. Emergency crews worked swiftly to assist the injured, direct traffic, and clear the wreckage.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are still determining what led to the crash. Investigators are examining potential factors such as speed, driver fatigue, or mechanical failure. The CHP’s Major Accident Investigation Team is collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses to reconstruct the events leading up to the collision.

Community Impact

The closure caused major traffic backups throughout Ontario and surrounding areas, affecting both commuters and freight transport along one of Southern California’s busiest corridors.

This crash serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of heavy freeway traffic and the importance of staying alert, especially in areas where commercial trucks and passenger vehicles share lanes.
